We missed you!
There were 10 of us at Mt. Hood Winery for the tour of the crush operation. Steve & Rich were excellent hosts and took us through the steps from grape to finished product. It was great fun.
Steve Benton wasn't there but Steve Bickford saw him today and reports that he's still on a chemo routine and gets tired easily but is doing well.
Next gathering is November 22, Monday, Charburger in HR at 5pm.

Benton update posted today on Facebook
Today, August 12th 2010 marks the end of Steve's third week of treatment. This is the halfway mark. It's all downhill from here. As an indication of how well he is doing, he drove him self into his radiation treatment today. He's a pretty stubborn guy if you don't know him:).

Facebook | Steve Benton
For those non Facebook folks, I'll post highlights every now and again here on the blog. We send Steve and his family all the positive thoughts and prayers through this tough time - Hang in there Steve, we'll stand with you!
This is the last entry in the blog:
Facebook Steve Benton: "Steve officially started chemotherapy treatment July 21st in the evening at his home. The following morning Steve felt fine, and experienced no side effects. He headed off to The Dalles for his first round of radiation. Steve will be in treatment for 6 weeks. Chemo, 7 days/week and radiation 5 days/week."

Synopsis of July 12 meeting
A great time was had by all and the surprise guest of the evening was Mary Jo Chrisman!!! She was in town visiting and stopped by to catch up since she wasn't available during the reunion.
We reviewed the input given for the reunion & future planning for the next reunion. It was agreed that everyone had a great time, had good weather and wished that more classmates could have attended. Comment was given that the food was good but the cost per person a bit high and those that got to go on the Mid Valley & Wy'east tours had a fun time reminiscing.
Debbie Vaday gave a treasury report, we still have a few folks to repay but there should be around $500. left for planning for the next big reunion.
There was mixed response on when the next reunion should be and whether to have a potluck or catered. Kathy Gale Morris suggested a 60th birthday party in 2012. We decided that it would be a grand idea so we will begin planning/picking a date at the next gathering (more to follow on that). It was generally agreed that 10 years is too long to wait.
We will try to get as many addresses confirmed as possible and send out save the date postcards to all, plus keeping the Facebook & blog updated with news and events. Please everyone, keep in touch so that you don't miss any future events.
We've had such a good time visiting at each of the planning sessions, we've decided to continue them at least quarterly. If a classmate comes to town or someone wants to call a no host - you all come- in between the quarterly gathering that’s fine too!
Steve Bickford offered up a gathering at his place on October 27 for a grape crush! Details will be forthcoming as the date draws nearer - mark your calendars!!! December will be skipped as we're all too busy during the holidays. Comment was made about a possible winter gathering in AZ for those that travel south after the 1st of the year or maybe we'll have one before everyone leaves.
We will begin picking a date and having conversation on what/where/when for our birthday party at the Crush Party at Bickford's on October, 27th.

Post Reunion Review - Gathering
We'll go over the survey results and the plan is for JoAnn and I to get together earlier in the day to get the CDs done of the reunion pictures.
I have the booklet that Chris made in a PDF format now too if any of you would like a copy that way. That can be emailed but we aren't too sure how large the power-point show of photos will be so the plan is to put that on CD. If you haven't already let us know if you want a copy.
Hopefully it'll be a nice day so that you folks in Portland might be inclined for a drive :)

A note from Donna Wampler Howard
Yep, it's Donna, put me on the mailing list. I have been waiting since I spoke to Vicki, last ?_______2009, to try to find out how to get in touch with the setup committees. And I just found the information on classmates with Francine's information. Anyway, have been planning the trip for months just waiting to see or hear something final on dates, etc. So please keep me informed as it takes a lot of planning to get me away from my farm, and I plan on being in Hood River for at least 10 days or so, as my commitments over here won't let me be away any longer than that.
I am R.S.V.P.ing for myself and a guest, name (Sam Ishii) for the name tags if need be. We are both getting excited about a trip together back to Hood River as I haven't been able to bring Sam with me the last few times I had to come back to take care of family business. Now you all have to know he is strictly a laid back (like to call himself shy-but NOT) Japanese, born and raised here on Molokai, so be easy on him. Heh, heh. He has had the opportunity to come to Hood River a couple of times and loves it, but he thinks it's too COLD there.
Love you guys, looking forward to getting your updates and seeing you in June.
Aloha Nui Loa, Donna Wampler

Message from Ray Nix
Times flies doesn't it? I just joined the Classmates.com site and have started to take note of classmates from Wy'East and Hood River. I also found your blog site as you prepare for your 40th Reunion. Hope I can be there, but timing will probably be an issue for me this summer. (preparing to move into a new house -- don't know exact date yet).
In any event, I justed wanted to say "Hi" to all my Wy'East friends that I haven't seen since 1970. I live in Henderson, KY and work in Evansville, IN (just across the Ohio River bridge) and have been here for 32 years. I get back to Hood River rather infrequently to visit, but was there last over Labor Day when I moved my mother into Brookside Manor (Memory Care).
Besides saying "Hi" and hoping some of you might want to send me an email sometime to catch up on old times, I'd like to also ask that if any of you know of anybody looking for a nice private rental house -- our old home place is available. I'd like to get it rented in the next couple of months, if possible. It also has a nice garden area. Contact me if you might know of anybody that would make a good renter. Also, my Hood River contacts for this is my nephew, Dave Tallman or Teri Lee Radliff.
Hope to hear from some of you.
Regards,
Ray Nix

June 5th was confirmed for venue of Mt Hood Winery. Cost per head has been discussed but can’t be finalized until the food service is confirmed. We hope to be around $50. per person. It will not be a sit down dinner but finger foods.
Both dates will be open to anyone that attended WyEast,
We are gathering as many current email addresses as possible so that we don’t have to spend money on postage. Please forward any classmate info you might have to our email address at wyeast70@gmail.com, we have less than half of the classmate’s emails.
Vicki has confirmed with
Accommodation info will be included in the final announcement of reunion plans that we hope to have out around March 1, 2010. There will be RSVP deadline of May 7, 2010 for the June 5th attendance.

Gordon Leigh of Positive Negatives Photography will be there on June 5th to take group photos. We are still trying to decide if there would be interest in video interviews that could be put on a DVD.
Vicki will be doing further investigation on finding the food service people and making those arrangement.
We will set up a mailing address for RSVPs to be sent to and Francie & Debbie are looking into making payment possible via paypal so that those that would like to use credit card may do so.
Sue Willis attended the meeting and will work on notification to her classmates. Julie Cantrell has said that HRHS 70 would like to join us and she will be working on notifications to her class.
Please share the word with others you know that you think would like to attend.
