He is suffering from cancer.
And Eric Mortenson has requested folks email him for an article he is working on at the Oregonian:
"I wanted to contact and interview a couple classmates for a story I
hope to do later this year. Their emails will remain private, and are
only for contact purposes. If people want to contact me, that would be
great. They should use emortenson@oregonian.com I'm specifically interested in classmates who attended 6th grade at Barrett School, 1963-64."
